People have a need to grow and develop

    Explanation:

Abraham Maslow was a psychologist who developed a theory called the "Hierarchy of needs" which is usually represented as a pyramid and that shows us the needs people go through, starting from the bottom with the physiological needs and going up until the person reach the top of the pyramid with the "self actualization needs" in which the person has the desire to become the best version of himself/herself.

According to Maslow we all strive to make it to the top of the pyramid since people are always looking to be better and have an inner inherent desire of growth and development.

Therefore the basic assumption about people that made Maslow think that they would constantly move up the needs hierarchy was that People have a need to grow and develop.
