First a little bit of history: The New Deal of Roosevelt was a logic and social reaction in the after-math of the Great Slump of the 1930s that left millions of people without jobs. So it tried to regulate business and embarked on deficit spending, which was seen by conservative critics as socialism and the end of freedom. The Social Security program of the New Deal became the leading target of these critics who coined the phrase ¨Security at the price of freedom¨.
