The precedent overtured state laws based on an interpretation of the Constitution. Option C is the right answer.

    Explanation:

The legal precedent in Plessey case endorsed the state laws which allowed segregation in public utility places as per the 'separate but equal' doctrine specified in the constitution but Supreme Court domineered the previous legal precedent in Brown's case.

In Brown vs. Board of education case, the Supreme Court overtured the states' laws stating that separate but equal principle comprises an inherent element of inequality and discrimination. The Topeka Public school disallowed to register the daughter of Oliver brown who is a black denizen and it suggested her to go to a segregated school which was specially meant for blacks.

This made Oliver Brown to file a case against the school and the law suit was taken up for hearing in the Supreme Court. Supreme Court, after a great deliberation ruled that Separate but equal notion is unconstitutional for American educational institutions.

This was a noteworthy decision and paved way for the success of Civil Rights movement. The federal Government took necessary action in overruling the state laws and the federal power was restored.
