    Stage 4 (Coordination of reactions)

    Explanation:

Jean Piaget was a psychologist who developed a theory on cognitive development according to which we go through different stages in our cognitive development and in each one of this our way of thinking becomes more and more complex.

The first stage of this theory is the sensorimotor stages who lasts from 0-24 months of age. This stages has different substages, the fourth stage is also called Coordination of reactions.

In the stage of Coordination of reactions, the child starts to show intentional acts, in other words their acts have an specific intention. They also combine two or more schemas to achieve an effect. Also, they realize that some objects have some specific qualities.

In this example, Baby Jill knows now how to feed herself, she is combining her schema for reaching with her schema for eating. Since she is combining two schemas in order to achieve an effect (feeding herself) and shows an specific intention when doing so, we can say that she is in stage 4 (coordination of reactions) of the sensorimotor stage.
