    Explanation:

    The layering up of various earthly materials has taken place on Earth from several hundred million years. Every time after a new layer got deposited over the other, the layer below got isolated and remain unchanged since then. Hence, if a cross-section block is drilled out of the Earth now, it would exhibit clear divisions of all the periods in the same order as the geologic time scale.
