There are several types of democracy. In response to the question, we will learn about participatory democracy, pluralistic democracy and elite democracy.

    Explanation:

Participating democracy is ideal form of democracy in which peoples have the power to decide directly on legislations and politicians are responsible for implementing those political decisions.

However, this is not a direct democracy, in which citizens are directly responsible for making political decisions. In a participatory democracy, citizens can influence political decisions, but do not make them. Politicians remain responsible for implementing those political decisions

Pluralist democracy is a model of democracy in which no group dominates politics and organized groups compete with each other to influence politics.

We see examples of pluralistic democracy both at the state and federal levels. As in a participating democracy, anyone can participate in persuading political decisions, but in a pluralistic democracy, personalities work through groups formed around common causes.

Philosophers who support pluralistic democracy argue that people self-select the causes for which they want to devote their time and then support those groups. Those groups compete to gain the support of notable politicians who will advocate for their interests.

Elite democracy is a model of democracy in which a small number of people, generally rich and well educated people, influence political decision making.

Defended by some of the Framers, such as Alexander Hamilton, the elite democratic model argues that participation in politics should be limited to a small group of highly informed people those can produce the greatest decisions for all peoples.

We can realize the power of elite democracy today in the structure of the Electoral College. The Electoral College is an example of elite democracy because it places a small group in charge of making important political decisions, even if those decisions contradict the popular will.
