    The Act which prohibited the importantion of slaves of 1807 came into effect on January 1st, 1808. From then on, slave trade was banned in the United States.

    In 1807, some congressmen from the South joined with the North in order to vote in favor of abolishing the African slave trade. The law was passed in March of that year - Congress had given all the slave traders just nine months to close their operations down in the country.
