In ""Terror in the Name of God"" author Mark Juergensmeyer argued that in the postmodern era there is a questioning of modern secular values and an uncertainty about what constitutes a valid basis for national identity.     It dealt with questions such as, Why anyone would believe God could sanction terrorism and Why the the rediscovery of Religious power in recent years has been so violent.

    He argued amongst other things that some people are disenchanted with the modern society and might turn to religion to seek identity.
