The most important task of the Second continental Congress was adopting the United States Declaration of Independence (4th July 1776). Additionally, the congress worked as a government of the United States, managing many of its functions, such as making treaties with other entities and raising and maintaining an army, which was specially important, as the colonies were fighting for the Independence at this time.
