    Let's look at option b) : this would not be a non-violent mean, but rather a violent one, so it's not the correct option.

    Also, bribery would not be very effective, so this is the reason why they didn't use it.

    but what they did use, and what is the correct answer was trade sanctions.

    In fact, the US and many other countries used such sanctions.
