Anthony Burns was a fugitive slave that was a part of one of the most famous trials in America. Anthony was a slave but managed to escape to Boston and started working in a clothing store there. His owner found out and went to court to recover Burns.

The Court decided, under the Fugitive Slave Act that the owner had conclusive evidence of ownership and scape of Burns. With the decision, Burns was grabbed and took to the Courthouse. Knowing this, several members of an abolitionist movement went to the Courthouse to defend Burns. A crow of 5 thousand people gathered there to protests against the decision and many abolitionists were arrested. In the end, two clergymen from Boston decided to buy Burns and returned him to a free state.
