The right answer is "A. President George W. Bush launched the war on terror.

Soon after the most spectacular terrorist attack, then-US President George Bush, for months in office, declared war on terror and demanded that the Taliban regime in Afghanistan hand over bin Laden and the others responsible.

Faced with the refusal, the Afghan War began in October of that year, with the territory being invaded in order to depose the Taliban regime and dismantle the terrorist network.

The war overthrew the Taliban regime, but it did not end with Al Qaeda. Hamid Karzai turned Afghan president with US support, but the government only managed to control the capital Kabul and the surrounding area. In several regions, local militias continued to dominate and support terrorist networks.
