Robert E. Lee was an American soldier who began his career with the US Army Corps of Engineers before committing treason and joining the treasonous Confederate Army, becoming the leader of the Army of Northern Virginia.

While some remember him fondly, this is mostly as a result of a whitewashing campaign by racist Confederate veterans.

Robert E. Lee was both a brilliant military leader and a treasonous Army officer.

The latter and not the former should define him in history.
