The Anti-Federalists were opposed to a strong Federal government. Their main fear was that a strong federal government would become too powerful and would infringe on the rights of the states and the individuals in the states. This was especially worrisome for them as they were coming from a system where they were ruled by a Monarchy across the ocean.
