After the Civil War, the South was destructed and dominated by the Republican party. However, the presence of republicans wasn't seen as a good omen, because their interests were not compatible with the problems of the South people. The Redeemers were an answer to this massive presence of republicans. They consider themselves as a branch of the Democratic Party and were aligned with the interests of the rural areas and to preserve the interests of a majority population. They conducted several changes in the Southern farms and the laws that regulated agriculture.
