Why did the greek actor polus, when playing the role of electra, bring the ashes of his dead son onstage with him? He wanted to elicit feelings of sympathy from the audience by reminding them of actual tragedy. He wanted public acknowledgment of his son's death. He wanted to cry real tears lamenting the "death" of his character's brother showing internal acting. He was trying to shock the audience into changing the world outside the theatre?
