Persecution of Christians lasted only a short time. With the abdication of Diocletian, in 305, the persecutions were suspended and officially ended in 311, resulting in 7 years of harsh reprimands.
The only things Christians could do at that time was to hide or pretend to practice the religion of the empire while worshiping Christ.
