The sun's gravitational pull keeps the Earth in a curved orbit

The speed of the Earth's motion keeps it from crashing into the sun.

    Explanation:

The planet orbit around the sun due to the gravitational attraction of the sun as its the far and heaviest object in the solar system. Due to this earth has bulge near the equator. The earth also exerted a force and speed at which earth revolves around the sun also keeps it's away from crashing into the sun and this orbital motion is in an elliptical shape. As all the planets were formed by the rings of gases around the sun that settles to form planet these planets were formed according to their gases matter they hold. Thus is the acceleration due to gravity.
