    From 1955 to 1968, the role of FBI was to discredit Dr. King and to weaken SCLC's influence among US citizens, especially black population.

    Explanation:

    The FBI led by J. Edgar Hoover launched first investiagations in mid 50's of M. Luther King and SCLC and have continued with series of investigations trough different departments, starting with Racial Matters Program, continuing with Communist Infiltration Program and so on, until his assassination in 1968.

    He was accused of being inflitrated by comunist party to destabilise and recruit into rebels' movements. FBI was mostly affraid of his power to influence young black population and unify them to fight the policy of white supremacy.
