John is a regular drinker. When he does not drink alcohol for an extended period he begins to feel nauseated and craves alcohol. Because of this unpleasant feeling, John chooses to drink and then the unpleasant feelings go away. What has happened to John?

    John is a regular drinker. This symbolises his habitual demand. On not drinking alcohol, he feels sickening craving. This symbolises withdrawal symptoms difficulties. When he drinks again, he starts feeling better. This symbolises instant gratification.
