At that time, German soldiers have the full intention to execute all the Jewish prisoners in the concentration camp. But the people in the camp were used as hard labors to produce various parts of military equipment for the Nazi. This is why the Germans choose to evacuate the prisoners when Allied forces draw closer.

But, the evacuation route that the Germans initially wanted to use were blocked by resistance group who fought to free the camp prisoners. Since Germany has to sustain their attack, they're forced to postponed the evacuation to the next day.
