In Marbury v. Madison, the Supreme Court reviewed the actions of the Executive Branch for the first time establishing what is commonly known as "judicial review."

Judicial Review protects the Rule of Law by ensuring that decisions by the Executive and Legislative branch are not arbitrary and an overreach.

While judicial review was not fully used again until Dred Scott, judicial review is commonly used today and has been an impactful doctrine for American government in that it ensures that the executive and legislative branches comply with the Constitution.
