    Dorothea Lynde Dix who lived from the years 1802-1887 contributed to the reforms through her teaching, writing as a author and also through reforming.

    She made frantic effort in respect of the mentally ill and the prisoner, This prompt the creation of many institutions across the United States and in Europe and this subsequently change the people's view of these populations.

    During the Civil war, she was charged with the administration of the military hospitals.

    Dix was also a voice of advocate for the work of a female nurse
