The New Deal was a series of programs enacted by President Franklin Roosevelt in response to needs for relief, reform and recovery from the Great Depression.

    Eugene Talmadge opposed the New Deal programs and stated they were threatening Georgia's way of life. He specifically opposed the minimum wage requirements and preached frugality, governmental economy, segregation, limited government, and low taxes. He also opposed Social Security for Georgians.
