The presidential election in the United States on November 7, 2000, entered the history of the country as one of the most ambiguous. It was a contest between Republican candidate George W. Bush and Democratic candidate Al Gore. For the first time since 1876, the results of the two major candidates were so close. The world closely watched the 36-day recount of votes, the results of which still did not convince a significant part of Americans in the legitimacy of the newly elected President.
