What purpose do the obelisk of senusret and other obelisk serve

People believed that obelisks gave a special protection to the buildings, such as temples, next to which they were placed. For example, they believed than an obelisk symbolized a God, and than a God, specifically, Ra, actually lived within the Obelisk.
