What was the significance of the battle of Gettysburg

    One major thing is that it was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, suffering over 50,000 casualties during the 3 day battle. The second thins is that it was a Union victory that stopped Confederate General Robert E. Lee's second invasion of the North.
