Why did europeas began to explore other lands during the renaissence?

    The major reason for European exploration was the search for new trade routes with India - to be able to get spices that made food preservation possible.

    This was connected with the rise of the Ottoman Empire and the capture of Constantinopole - today's Instanbul - in 1453, which made the trade by land routes, as was done before, very expensive and not reliable.
