Many of the grievances mentioned in the Declaration of Independence were related to perceived infringements on important or natural rights that the colonists believed should be protected. In the Bill of Rights the framers outlined certain civil liberties that needed to be respected and upheld by the court system such as the freedom of speech, assembly, and others.
