Asoka's edicts were a series of inscriptions found in today's India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan. They are the first evidence of Buddhism. They preach fairnesses and benevolence, for example kindness to prisoners and respect for animal life - they let us see Asoka as a very good and compassionate person.
