Outline in brief the background in which the constitution of independent india was formulated

Some background: the constitution was written at the time when the British were leaving the country and when it was clear that a partition of India into a Muslim and Hindu states is inevitable (and has already happened) - but that this partition will not the the end of religious and ethnic problems in the region.
