Do you think Jefferson live up to his ideals and beliefs

Personally I believe he did not live up to his political beliefs. Jefferson was a democratic republican and in those times this "party" believed in strict constructionism and belief in the written law of the Constitution. He went against this with his purchase of the Louisiana territory. Jefferson said he would save the people from the federalists and take power away from the federal government when in reality he was one of the four residents throughout history that gave more power to the central government (the others were Jackson, Lincoln and FDR). This is why the election of 1800 is called the second revolution. However once in office he allowed the federal government to double the size of the country by purchasing land which it says no where in the constitution the government can do. The other hypocritical thing he did was excavating the land by using military force (this was before Lewis and Clark-which he also kept a secret from his cabinet) but by using the military he went against his belief that a standing army reflected the tyrannical king of England.
