    Shah Abbas I was the shah of Persia from 1588 to 1629. He toughened the Safavid dynasty by expelling by banishing Ottoman and Uzbek troops from Persia an by creating an Army. In addition, he made Esfahan the capital of Persia and raised commerce and encouraged arts.
