Compare and contrast the arguments for and against capital punishment

I am against the death penalty being forced upon a person, regardless of the heinous nature of the crime, a death sentence is draconian and not fit for purpose in this day and age. I do however feel that those who have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison should be allowed to choose to be executed in lieu of a death sentence.
