How has the aging of the population affected american society?

elderly people have become a political force and a topic of debate, bringing greater attention to issues such as social security and medicare.

One argument that made to oppose increasing medicare and other form of social security is because the only way for government fund it is by raising tax money from other people.

And one argument to support is that it would increase the general well being of the elderly who have passed their productive age to be able to sustain their own medicare/security.
