I don't have the exact wordings or phrases that Dr. Lilienfeld said about hypnosis but I read an article written by Martin and Deidre Bobgan. The article was entitled: Hypnosis: an Ordinary or Altered State of Consciousness?

Based on the article, Dr. Lilienfeld said this about hypnosis: (quoates were taken from their book 50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology)

    1) the idea that "hypnosis is a unique ‘trance’ state that differs in kind from wakefulness" is a myth.

    2) research indicates that "No trance or discrete state unique to hypnosis is at work" and that the "feeling of an altered state is merely one of the many subjective effects of suggestion."
