Why does holden think it spoils a conversation if someone asks what religion he is? what does this say about him?

Holden thinks it spoils a conversation when someone asks what religion he is on the grounds that Catholics dependably wish to persuade you to be catholic and others simply like to talk. He isn't much of a religious person and doesn't have much to say in regards to the subject.
