What is the motivations colonist had for moving to the British colonies

Some reasons why British peope wanted to settle the colonies was that you could have anew start, there were more opportunities (more farmland, empty space, etc.), you could escape religious persecution, and sometimes they put criminals in the colonies, so in that case, you were out of jail.
