There is no doubt that Egypt could not have achieved its great and powerful empire if it had not been a unified country.

Pharaoh Horus Narmer sometimes called Menes is credited with the first unification of Egypt.

But there was more than one instance when the unification treaty between the 40 nomes of Lower Egypt and the 42 of Upper Egypt broke down and a new unification treaty and affirmation of allies was required to maintain the stability and unity of a united Egypt ...

Without unification it is doubtful that the pyramids along with many other examples of the development of an extremely high level of knowledge in masonry and mathematics could have ever been achieved.

Unification made the Nile the super highway of ancient Egypt and linked the divided country.

The region known as Lower Egypt covers mostly the Delta region, which is as it always has been, primarily agricultural land and known as the bread basket of Egypt.

While Upper Egypt was the location of resourses such as gold, granite and alabaster and from its denser population at that time gave a larger proportion of manpower for the military and also the construction of temples and monuments as an act of fealty during the inundation period.
