Farmed salmon have the ability to transmit diseases and parasites to salmon in the wild. This can lead to depleted wild stocks, which do not have the resistance to the parasites. The salmon bred in the farms will be resistant to the diseases, but when they mix with the wild salmon, those in the wild will fall prey to many of these illnesses.
