Acetylcholinestarse is a serine hydrolase enzyme that is found at neuromuscular junctions and cholinergic brain synapses. Acetylcholinestarse perform its biological role by terminating impulse transmission at cholinergic synapses by rapid hydrolysis of the neurotransmitter Ach to acetate and choline. However, acetylcholinesterase inhibitors can be classified as reversible and irreversible.
