How are the olfactory receptors activated? How are the olfactory receptors activated? Olfactory cilia move mucus over the receptors. Odorants dissolve in the mucus and bind to receptors. Mitral cells relay signals to the olfactory bulbs. The olfactory tracts transduce signals to the hypothalamus.

The correct answer will be option-Odorants dissolve in the mucus and bind to receptors

    Explanation:

Olfactory receptors are the receptors to sense the smell thus are known as smell receptors.

The receptors are the protein molecule which binds to the odour molecules and receives a sense of smell.

The receptors are embedded in the cilium membranes covered with mucus on which when the odour molecules bind. The binding of the odour molecules triggers the opening of the cation channels which generates the action potential. The action potential is then transmitted to the olfactory bulb in the brain where the signal is analysed.

Thus, Odorants dissolve in the mucus and bind to receptors
