Answer: Cellular respiration is a process by which glucose is broken down in the presence of oxygen into carbon dioxide and water in order to generate energy in form of ATP.

Explanation: Cellular respiration is a process by which glucose molecule is oxidized to generate ATP with the release of carbon dioxide and water. Cellular respiration is divided into:

    1) glycolysis: A process in which one molecule of glucose broken down into two molecules of pyruvate in a ten enzyme catalyzed reactions.

    2) Pyruvate is further oxidized to acetyl CoA

    3) Acetyl CoA enters the citric acid or Krebs cycle to generate GTP, NADH and FADH2. Citric acid cycle is an eighth-enzyme catalyzed reaction.

    4) FADH2 and NADH enter the electron transport chain where they are further oxidized to generate ATP.
