    The complex nutrients like sugars, starch, proteins and fats present in the body are converted to simpler products during digestion.

    The biochemical energy stored in these simple products like glucose is converted to ATP molecules through both aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration.

    The simpler sugars formed like glucose contains the energy present in food and this stored energy is used to produce and store energy as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecules through cellular respiration.

    Cellular respiration is the process of combination of glucose and oxygen and releases carbon dioxide and water along with transfer of energy from glucose to ATP molecules. In an ATP molecule, energy is stored in its phosphate bonds.

    The energy present in each molecule of glucose can produce about 36-38 ATP molecules.

    The energy converted from glucose is utilized by all the cells of the body.
