During the 9th ASEAN Summit in Bali, leaders of the group adopted the Declaration of ASEAN Concord II. This was to establish three pillars one of which was ASEAN Security Community. Keeping in view the political, economic and social interconnections among member states, the ASEAN Security Community realized importance of comprehensive security. The broad goal of the ASEAN Security Community was to ensure that countries in the region live at peace with one another in a just, democratic and harmonious environment.
