    Explanations: - The compass needle is wrapped in a coil which is connected to a battery and switch. If the switch is on then a magnetic field is generated in the coil that stops the moment of the compass needle.

    When the switch is off then no magnetic field is generated in the coil and the compass needle is free to turn.
