    We could use nitric acid and silver nitrate to prove the presence of chloride, bromide or iodide from a solution that contains halide ions.

    Explanation:

    The precipitation method involves the precipitation of the halide salts in diffenrent colours. Depending on the colour, it will be possible to indentify which halide ion is present in the solution.

    The first step is addind a diluted solution of nitric acid to the ionic solution. This is necessary in order to remove any other ions that might interfere in the halides precipitation.

    The seconde step is adding a solution of silver nitrate to the ionic solution. The nitrate of each halide will be of a specific colour:

    Cl - white precipitate Br - cream precipitate I - yellow precipitate
