In order to calculate the moles of product we need to write complete balanced chemical reaction. 3Fe (s) + 2O2 - -->Fe3O4 Hence one mole of Fe3O4 will be produced from three moles of Fe and 2moles of oxygen molecule. For given 12 moles of Fe 8 moles of O2 will be required. Howwver only six moles of O2 are given so O2 is the limiting reagent. The six mes of O2 will react with 9 molws of Fe to produce three moles of Fe3O4.
