Density, however, is the mass of an object divided by its volume ... This means that the lead has a higher density than cotton. To summarize, volume and density measure two different things. Volume measures how big the space of something is, whereas density measures the how much mass there is in this space (volume).

Density: Degree of consistency measured by the quantity of mass per unit volume.
Volume: Amount of space something takes up.
