    C) a conjugate base

    Explanation:

Acid is the molecule that will release H + ion when dissolved. A solution will become more acid as the concentration of H + ion higher.

According to the Brønsted-Lowry definition, acid called donor proton, because the molecule losing H + (only consists of 1 proton). Water will receive the proton so its called base. The product of acid that loses H + will become a conjugate base, while water that receives H + will become conjugate acid.
